The inaugural COBA Invitational Golf Day was a tremendous success.
The inaugural COBA Invitational Golf Day was a tremendous success.

The inaugural COBA Invitational Golf Day was held at The Brisbane Golf Club on Friday 9 September. Keen golfers held their breath as the rainy weather threatened to postpone the day once again. Fortunately, as soon as the procession of golf carts rolled out after the putting competition, blue skies replaced the clouds for a tremendously successful day of golf!

Fuelled by a delicious sausage sizzle, a strong contingent of 76 players teed up to begin the 4 ball 18-hole Ambrose competition. Thanks to the COBA TradeMutt bucket hats provided to all players, the tees and fairways were a mass of colour, providing excellent protection from the sun and making everyone easy to spot.

The day concluded with casual drinks and food in the clubhouse. Presentations followed an entertaining interview with the irrepressible, three-time AFL premiership Brisbane Lions legend, Jason Akermanis. Congratulations to the team captained by Old Boy Jon McKain (1999) for becoming the inaugural winners. Each winning team member will have their name inscribed on a beautiful new hand crafted silky oak shield. Many other great prizes were up for grabs including for longest drive and nearest the pin. Even the team with the highest overall score picked up an award as the ‘Last Men Standing’.

The day was packed full of fun, with everyone describing it as a relaxing and very enjoyable afternoon. Whilst there would have been many swings and misses on the course, what was not lost on the players were the invaluable social and business connections made on the day. The success of the day would not have been possible without the support of our amazing sponsors, many of whom have already signed up to sponsor and play again next year. The 2023 COBA Invitational Golf Day will again be held at The Brisbane Golf Club on Friday 8 September.
