Class of 2011

Acknowledging his significant work as a criminal lawyer in North Queensland, Old Boy Mathai Joshi (2011) was recently voted as one of Townsville’s most influential people involved in the criminal justice system. This level of recognition is all the more impressive when you learn that Mathai was admitted as a Solicitor to the Supreme Court of Queensland little more than three years ago and shares this acknowledgement with some very esteemed colleagues, many of whom have decades of experience in the industry and region.

Mathai grew up in Blackall in regional Western Queensland. He then moved to Brisbane to complete his secondary education, attending Churchie for years 11 and 12. In March 2018, Mathai graduated from James Cook University (JCU) with a Bachelor of Laws. During his time at JCU he was actively involved in the local University Law Society. Mathai is now a Criminal Law Solicitor, currently practising in Townsville. He has also completed his Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice with the Australian College of Law.

Mathai completed his studies whilst working full time as a Trainee Solicitor at Arthur Browne & Associates. In January 2021 he joined Connolly Suthers Lawyers who also specialise in criminal law. Mathai has represented clients throughout Queensland, from remote regional towns to all the major cities.

“Without my time at Churchie I don’t think I could have had the confidence to be the professional I am. I love the school and truly am grateful for everything it’s given me.”

Congratulations Mathai!
