Chris Golding, an Old Boy (1993-1997) and former Associate Chaplain (2013-2014) of Churchie, traces a sense of vocation to time as a chorister at St. John’s Cathedral.

After graduating from high school, Chris worked in various people-focused jobs, including two years as a night-shift taxi driver. In 2007, his relocation to Canberra enabled a testing of a vocational call at St. Mark’s National Theological Centre, in conjunction with part-time salaried lay ministry as a school chaplain, a disability support worker and as a resident sexton.

During his teenage years, Chris’s step-mother, a native of Denver, Colorado instilled a love for the United States. It was this which inspired Chris to pursue a scholarship-based research trip across the U.S. for six weeks in late 2010. Ordained in the Anglican Church of Australia as a deacon and priest in 2011, Chris served a curacy in Young, New South Wales before moving back to Brisbane in late 2012. After two years at Churchie as Associate Chaplain, an opportunity to take up Associate Rector of the Parish of St. Clement, Honolulu meant a move to Maui in January 2015. In August 2018 Chris and his family (wife Julia, children Phoebe and James) relocated to the U.S. mainland to take up a call as the Associate Priest at St. Luke's Church and School, Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he shared his time between parish and school ministry whilst enjoying every opportunity to explore the rich and vibrant culture of southern Louisiana. From August 2021, Chris and family will return to Maui where he will be School Chaplain of Seabury Hall, a coeducational college preparatory day school serving grades 6 through 12.

A vegan, Christopher enjoys downtime cooking for family at home, while keeping up with pop culture and current affairs. Singing, study, and forms of mediative prayer continue to sustain and refresh as well.
