On Wednesday 19 August, we hosted our Term 3 Wellbeing Parent Lecture Series in the lecture theatre of The Centenary Library. In collaboration with Parent Connect and the Old Boys’ Association, the panel discussion focussed on 'The Importance of Wellbeing in Today’s Society'.

On this occasion, we were delighted to welcome Old Boys Dr Toby Ford (1977), CEO of Ford Health, and Mr Stuart Waddington (1983), Business Performance Consultant with New Arenas, alongside Ms Issy Mowen (Hillary Housemaster) and Connor McLeod (Year 12 Prefect) for a roundtable discussion exploring the question:

"How can parents support teenagers to be healthy, resilient and connected while navigating academic, social and personal pressures?"

Stuart facilitated the discussion, drawing on his experiences as a student, parent and professional consultant to guide a thoughtful and engaging conversation. Toby contributed extensive clinical knowledge and experience, sharing practical insights in a refreshingly candid manner that resonated strongly with both parents and students.

Connor provided a valuable student perspective, speaking openly about balancing the demands of leadership as a Prefect and as a First XV Rugby player alongside the academic expectations of senior schooling. His reflections highlighted the importance of strong, open relationships with parents and the significant role these connections play in helping young men navigate the pressures and challenges of adolescence.

Issy's perspective as a Housemaster complemented the discussion by providing insight into the pastoral care and support structures available at the School. She spoke to the importance of fostering positive relationships with boys from Years 7 to 12 and outlined the breadth of programmes, support services and opportunities available to Churchie students, including wellbeing, leadership and outdoor education initiatives, as well as cocurricular and service experiences.

While this was the final Wellbeing Parent Lecture Series event for the year, we look forward to continuing this valuable initiative in 2027 and further strengthening partnerships between school and home in supporting the wellbeing of our young men.

Ross Muir

Deputy Head of Senior School Years 10-12
