The OBA recently hosted a presentation for Year 12 students with a focus on mentoring opportunities and how to navigate life after school. The initiative stemmed from a collaboration between the OBA’s Mentoring Sub-Committee and Acting Deputy Head of Senior School, Mr Josh Di Bella, a growing partnership between the school and its alumni network.

The session took the form of a panel discussion moderated by OBA Committee member Mal McLennan (2004) and featured Dr Tim Amos (2004), barrister Alexander Psaltis (2004), and defence professional Stu Zahnleiter (2004). Together, they shared candid insights about their career journeys, from the uncertainty of choosing a path to the lessons learned through challenges and change.

The key message was simple but powerful: you don’t need to have it all figured out yet, just keep doing things that help you find out what’s right for you.

The presentation highlights the OBA’s commitment to supporting young Old Boys through its mentoring program, accessible via the COBweb website, which connects Old Boys with over 200 experienced mentors across various industries.

OBA President Grant Menzies added “We are very fortunate to have this alumni network, just recently we got a message from an Old Boy wanting to assist those interested in a career at the Bar or applying for a Rhodes Scholarship.”

The OBA would like to thank the panellists who generously volunteered their time to share valuable insights with the seniors. Their involvement is a wonderful reminder that the Churchie spirit continues well beyond graduation through lasting connections like these.
