Class of 2022, Class of 2007 |
Lachlan Bloxsom (2022) and Lachlan Harburg (2007) are Churchie Old Boys living life in the fast lane. Both compete in the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge championship, which is a national level motorsport category that is sanctioned by Porsche. All drivers in the championship compete in the same race and in the exact same model of car; a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car. They do however race in two different classes, out of which come two sets of results and awards based on class placings. Lachlan Bloxsom races in the 'Pro' class which facilitates young and professional drivers, who are making a career out of motorsport. Lachlan Harburg races in the ‘Am’ class, which is made up of amateur gentlemen drivers, who are usually aged 35 or older and compete for the love of racing, not as a career path.
As one of the biggest events on the V8 Supercars calendar, the recent round of racing on Townsville’s street circuit is certainly the most prolific event attended by their category. Given it’s a rather dangerous street circuit, with no margin for error, it’s the most intense qualifying session of the year and the one everyone wants to claim. In what is quite a special achievement, both Lachlan’s qualified on pole (first) in their respective classes. Sadly, Lachlan Harburg’s luck ran out after that session, as he was caught up in a 10-car pileup in the second race. However, Lachlan Bloxsom managed to hang on and grab second place for the round.
Congratulations to both Lachlans! We wish you both every success in the upcoming rounds.
