Class of 1986

In his professional life, Old Boy Gavin Batcheler (1986) is a Director with Source, Australia's leading in-house legal services firm. As a dual Australia and UK-qualified lawyer, Gavin has extensive experience in private practice with international law firms in Australia, London, Middle East and South East Asia. His practice areas include broad corporate commercial matters as well as infrastructure development, construction, technology and mergers and acquisitions.

In his spare time, Gavin is an active member of Bondi Icebergs Swimming Club, which was founded in 1929 and is the only licensed Swimming Club in the world. Recently, as part of their bi-annual visit with their sister club in San Francisco, the South End Rowing Club, Gavin was one of over thirty ‘Icebergs’ and supporters, who headed to San Francisco to take on the 10th annual Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz swims. Braving a water temperature of 18 degrees celsius, the strong tides were equally punishing and added 15 to 20 minutes to the swim. With the Golden Gate Bridge Swim taking place on Saturday 26 August and the Alcatraz swim taking place on Sunday 27 August, acclimation swims were held for a couple of days prior. On Saturday, they warmed up with a 1-mile swim from the Golden Gate Bridge. Gavin’s 10 months of training prior to the event had him well prepared to complete the course and be first across the line for the Bondi Icebergs.

Congratulations Gavin!
