Old Boy Louis McAfee (2013), who is the current Long and Short course Queensland Cross Country Champion, wrote himself further into the record books at the recent annual Queensland Athletics Cross Country Championship. Completing the course in a time of 29mins:29secs, Louis won the 10,000 metres Open event for the fourth year in a row; a feat last achieved in 1954 by none other than fellow Old Boy Peter Fardoulys AM (1952) when he became the first Queenslander to win five 10,000 metres cross country titles in a row. In 2015 and 2016 Louis competed in the USA for Boise State University in Idaho, which included running in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Cross Country Championships.

Archie Ridgway, a fourth generation Churchie student currently in Year 10, also competed at the recent Queensland Athletics Cross Country Championship. In doing so, he secured his second consecutive title by winning the Under 15 age group event over 4,000 metres in a time of 12mins:12secs. Archie also currently holds the following titles: 2019 U14 GPS 1500m Track and Field Champion, 2020 U15 Queensland 1500m Track and Field Champion, 2020 U15 Queensland 3000m Track and Field Champion and 2020 U15 GPS Cross Country Champion.

When not training with Churchie, Archie trains and races with his club Brisbane Athletics Academy, which is owned and run by Churchie Old Boy Jayden Russ (2002). Jayden was also a very successful runner when at Churchie - winning multiple GPS and National titles over 1500m, 3000m and cross country. Jayden went on to represent Australia at the World Junior Championships and run for Iowa State University in the USA. He has since carved out a successful career coaching numerous State and National champions and was appointed National Team Coach for the 2020 World Under 20 track and field championships (before COVID-19 shut this event down). In 2006 and 2007 Jayden competed in the USA for Iowa State University. He is currently the Director of Sport Development and Innovation at Brisbane Boys’ College and has previously been Director of Athletic Development at St Aidan’s Anglican Girls School.
