Sibling Rivalry Still Simmers

The McDonald boys’ backyard cricket matches took on a whole new meaning recently when they locked horns for the first time in a First Grade match of the Brisbane Premier Cricket competition. Both strapping fast bowlers from a property in the St George district and First XI players when at Churchie, Stuart McDonald (Gerald 2012) recently made his first grade debut for the University of Queensland (UQ), while older brother Ronan (Gerald 2009) has been a regular first grader for some seasons and plays for Toombul District Cricket Club. Ronan has represented Queensland and is now captain at Toombul.  Ronan’s arrival at the batting crease saw the UQ skipper throw the ball to Stuart. Before too long he managed to snare the prized wicket of his brother, caught behind for 5 runs.  Unfortunately for Ronan, Stuart was not required to bat as UQ won the match comfortably. Stuart said: “My first grade debut was in 2015 for Toombul and I played a few years with Ronan there before moving to UQ this year, so it was interesting playing against him for the first time.”
