As a student, Russell entered Churchie in 1970. In the sporting arena, he participated in swimming, lifesaving and rugby. After completing senior in 1974, Russell attended the North Brisbane College of Advanced Education and has also attained the degree of Bachelor of Education. Seven years later, after previously being at Mabel Park Mt. Gravatt and Chatswood Hills state schools, Russell returned to Churchie in a teaching capacity. Following 34 years of loyal and dedicated service to Churchie Preparatory School, which represents an outstanding contribution to the School and to primary education, he has announced his intention to retire at the end of this year.

A dedicated Form Senior Teacher of Years 4, 5, 6 and 7, Russell has also contributed significantly to the School in many other ways. He was originally the Sportsmaster of the Preparatory School and early in his tenure was instrumental in developing an extensive games programme within the Preparatory School. Over the years Russell has been involved with camps to Goondiwindi, Fraser Island, Moreton Island, the highly successful Canberra trip and Rugby tours to both Sydney and New Zealand. Russell also participated in several cultural trips to Japan. Many boys have benefitted from his coaching of swimming, cricket, rugby, cross-country, athletics and basketball. He has also contributed significantly to the successful staging of the Prep School plays and musicals.

Russell’s desire for the boys to develop compassion and generosity of spirit led to his involvement in the World Vision campaign by sponsoring disadvantaged children. This has grown to be one of many service activities, which have seen many impoverished youth from around the world being supported by Churchie service and sponsorship activities.

Congratulations Russell on a long and successful career. We wish you and your family every happiness and success in the future.
